Eden Revisited

#067: Who were the Desert Fathers? w/ Austin (James) Berg

Eden Revisited

Around the year A.D 270–271 there was a man who left civilization and moved out to the desert in order to seek a "white" martyrdom. Soon after other men and women followed his steps in the sand in found themselves in small desert cells and communities. This way of life leads to what we know today as monasticism. In this episode, Austin and Austin Berg talk about the symbolism of the desert and some of the wisdom that came from the early period of monasticism.

St Anthony, pray for us.

Note: In trying to verify the story about the two monks crossing the river and the old wise monk and wine I could not find them. Those could have been a memory from somewhere else.
